Final Stats
Dartmouth scored three times in the third period to pull away from Princeton 5-2 tonight in front of 1,494 fans at Baker Rink. Chris Owen and Dustin Sproat scored for the Tigers and Trevor Clay turned aside 31 shots in the loss. Princeton's record fell to 3-17-0.
Dartmouth opened the scoring in the first period on Jarrett Sampson's third goal of the season. Hugh Jessiman picked up the puck behind the Princeton net and fed it in front to Sampson who redirected it past Clay to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead. Dartmouth extended its lead to two goals midway through the second when Chris Snizek intercepted a clearing pass and went in on Clay on a breakaway. Clay stopped the first shot but Snizek got his own rebound to score his third of the season. Princeton cut the lead to one goal just under two minutes later on a 4-on-4 situation. Mike Patton carried the puck deep in to the Dartmouth zone and fed Owen on the doorstep. Owen then fired a shot high to Dartmouth goaltender Nick Boucher's glove side for his tenth goal of the season. Princeton continued its pressure late in the second period and drew even at the 18:53 mark on a goal from Sproat. Patrick Neundorfer got the puck along the boards and fed Sproat who was all alone in front of Boucher. Sproat's first shot was saved but he followed up with a rebound that slid under Boucher for his third of the season.
The two teams played 15 minutes of scoreless hockey in the third period until Trevor Byrne broke the stalemate at 14:59 on a goal assisted by Kent Gillings and Jessiman. That goal would be the difference, as the Big Green would add two empty-net goals en route to a 5-2 win and their 11th win of the season.
