Maglione Posts Goal And Assist in Men's Hockey's 5-3 Loss To Vermont

After surrendering a three-goal lead and a two-goal lead, Vermont scored late in the third period to seal a 5-3 victory over Princeton in men's hockey Saturday afternoon in front of 2,484 fans. Matt Maglione led the Princeton offense, tallying a goal and assisting on a goal by Chris Owen.
Vermont scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead to the locker room. Brady Leisenring, who scored the overtime game-winner when these two teams met in Burlington, put the Catamounts up by a goal at 11:18. His goal came on the power play as he shot a rebound in to the Tiger goal. Vermont extended its lead to two goals less than four minutes later.
The Catamounts took a three-goal lead early in the second stanza on a 4-on-3 power play on a point shot from Jaime Sifers. Princeton stormed back 1:40 later when Maglione scored following an end-to-end rush. His goal was his third of the season and was assisted by Dustin Sproat and Neil McCann. Princeton made it 3-2 midway through the period when Mark Masters tallied his first career goal on a wrist shot that beat Vermont goaltender Shawn Conschafter. It looked as though the teams would end the second period 3-2, but Vermont scored with 1:03 remaining in the period to take a 4-2 lead to the intermission. Princeton got back within one goal early in the third period when Chris Owen scored his team-high 11th goal of the season, cashing in on a rebound off a Maglione point shot. Mike Patton posted his team-leading 11th assists of the season on the play. Despite outshooting Vermont 17-8 in that final period, Princeton could not get the equalizer and Vermont scored at 17:36 to cement the win.
Trevor Clay made 33 saves in the loss while Conschafter made 28 to earn the win.
