Princeton, N.J. - The anticipated home debut of Yasser El Halaby (Fr., Cairo, Egypt) turned out to be a success Wednesday evening at Jadwin Squash Courts. The rookie sensation and top player of the Princeton Tigers swept 2002 All America first-team selection Richard Repetto 3-0 to lead the defending Ivy League champs to a 9-0 win.
El Halaby didn't drop a point until early in the second game, and actually trailed 7-4 before scoring five unanswered points to take the second game 9-7. He finished Repetto off 9-2 in the final game to earn his first win at Jadwin Squash Courts.
The closest match of the night also went Princeton's way, as No. 9 Rob Siverd (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) rallied from a 10-9 loss in the opener to top Daniel Rottenberg 9-6, 9-6, 10-9 in the remaining three games.
Will Evans (Sr., Auckland, New Zealand) became the second Princeton player ever to win a match without dropping a point. He topped Colby Emerson 9-0, 9-0, 9-0, highlighting the tough top part of the Princeton lineup. Its top five spots, comprised of El Halaby and four seniors, dropped a total of 21 points in 15 games. Princeton can take a major step en route to a third Ivy League title in four years with a win Saturday at Yale.
