Providence, R.I. - Meghan Farrell, a freshman, scored two minutes into overtime to give Princeton a 1-0 win over Brown in women's soccer Saturday night.
The victory improved Princeton to 2-1-0 in the Ivy League and 7-1-2 overall. Brown slipped to 7-3-2, 1-2-0.
Brown in the only team Princeton has played in every season since it became a varsity program in 1980. Princeton has now defeated Brown six straight times, and Julie Shackford improved to 7-1-1 against the Bears. Princeton, who was 3-10-2 against Brown prior to Shackford's arrival, trails the all-time series 10-11-3.
"I thought we were really good tonight," said Shackford. "We did everything but score in regulation."
Farrell's game-winner started when Emily Behncke fed the ball into the middle of the box. Farrell then controlled the ball, hesitated and then sent the ball into the goal for her third score of the year.
Princeton returns home to play Boston University Monday night (6) and then Columbia Friday night (7:30) as the Ivy League season begins to head down the stretch. BU will come into the game Monday unbeaten in its last eight (5-0-3).
"We need to get a home game," said Shackford, whose team is 4-0 at home. "We haven't been home in awhile [since Sept. 27]."
