PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Ashley Sennett scored an unassisted goal midway through the first half and Lizzie Black added a goal on a penalty stroke just before halftime as the Princeton field hockey team defeated Brown, 2-0, in an Ivy League game played at Warner Roof Saturday afternoon.
The win was the 29th straight in Ivy League play for Princeton (8-3, 5-0), which defeated Brown for the fourth straight year. The Bears (7-5, 2-2 Ivy) were the last Ivy team to defeat the Tigers back in October 1999.
Sennett's goal was her second of the season, while Black's goal was her sixth of the year, tying her for the team lead with Claire Miller. The win was Princeton's second by shutout this season.
Princeton outshot Brown 17-8, including 7-2 in the decisive first half. Brown goalie Katie Noe had 10 saves to help keep the Bears in the game.
The Tigers, ranked No. 11 nationally, host seventh-ranked Old Dominion tomorrow afternoon at Class of 1952 Stadium at 1 p.m. in their regular-season home finale. Seniors Claire Miller, Cory Picketts and Rachel Armitage will be honored in a ceremony before the game.
Princeton travels to Harvard next Saturday (Oct. 25) in a matchup that will likely determine the Ivy League champion and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
