New Haven, Conn. - Senior Gretchen Anderson registered her second hat trick of the 2003-04 season at the Princeton women's hockey team improved to 6-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the ECAC with a 3-2 win at Yale Friday night. After allowing Yale to come back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, Anderson scored her third and final goal of the night at 14:57 of the third period to put the Tigers ahead for good.
Princeton opened the scoring 3:42 into the first period when Anderson beat Yale netminder Sarah Love with a shot that was assisted by senior Angela Gooldy and freshman Dina McCumber. The Bulldgogs came back to tie the game on a power play goal by Suzanne McGoey, who snuck one into the Tiger net later in the first period.
The Tigers went back ahead on a shorthanded goal by Anderson at 16:26 of the second, the lone goal of that period. It was Anderson's second shorthanded goal of the season.
The Bulldogs once again came back to tie the game when Deena Caplette tallied at 4:17 of the third off an assist from Jenna Spring. But Anderson, who earned first-star honors, scored her third goal at 14:57. Anderson now has 13 goals and 14 assists for 17 points to lead Princeton in scoring, and also sits near the top of the national statistics in goals and points per game.
Princeton senior goaltender Megan Van Beusekom made 22 saves to earn the win. She is now 4-3-0 for the season.
The Tigers complete their Thanksgiving weekend Sunday afternoon at home against Boston College. Game time is 1 p.m., at Hobey Baker Rink.
