Box Score
Sarah Butsch's goal with 3:57 remaining in regulation broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Princeton women's hockey team to a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon over four-ranked Dartmouth at Baker Rink. Nikola Holmes scored Princeton's first two goals and Megan Van Beusekom stopped 32 Big Green shots to earn the win.
The win clinched home-ice for the Tigers in next weekends first round of the ECAC playoffs, and a win tomorrow will place the Tigers in third spot, where they would meet the sixth-place team.
Princeton took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when Holmes scored her fourth of the year. She scored on a redirection of a shot taken by her sister, Annanarie Holmes and also assisted by Gretchen Anderson. Nikola Holmes added her second goal at 9:03 of the second period to give Princeton a 2-0 lead. The scoring for this goal was the same. This time Anderson drew the Dartmouth defense to her and fed a pass to Nikola Holmes across the crease, where she banged it home for her fifth of the season.
Dartmouth scored the games' next two goals to even things up. First, with 59 seconds remaining in the second period, Corenne Bredin guided a shot past Van Beusekom. Carly Haggard evened the score up 54 seconds into the third period to even up the score at 2-2.
Amy Ferguson made 20 saves in the loss, while Van Beusekom earned her 11th win of the season.
Princeton concludes the regular season tomorrow afternoon against Vermont.
