Men's Volleyball Challenges No. 9 Nittany Lions Early But Falls 3-0

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Princeton men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 9 Penn State Thursday night in the EIVA semifinals to end its 2002 season with a 16-11 record. The Tigers put a strong fight in the first two games but couldn't break through, and Penn State cruised in the final game to take the match.
Princeton fell 30-28 in the opener and 30-27 in the second game. Penn State opened a bigger lead in the final game and pushed through for a 30-22 clincher. The four-time defending EIVA champs will next face George Mason Saturday night for the league title.
Blake Robinson and Dennis Alshuler each had 10 kills for the Tigers, while Jason Liljestrom had 30 assists. Mark Stevens had eight digs, while Brian Hamming and Sean Vitousek each had three blocks.
EIVA Player of the Year Carlos Guerra led Penn State with 16 kills.
