The Ivy League's random draw for the automatic bids to the NCAA tournament in men's and women's lacrosse went to Princeton on the women's side and Dartmouth on the men's side.
The random draws were made necessary by Princeton's 11-3 win over Brown in men's lacrosse and 19-10 win over Brown in women's lacrosse. Those results left three-way ties for the championship in both the men's and women's races.
Princeton, Cornell and Dartmouth will be considered tri-champions in men's lacrosse; Princeton, Dartmouth and Yale will be considered tri-champions in women's lacrosse.
League executive director Jeff Orleans, who had never before had to conduct such a draw in his quarter-century in his position, put the names of the competing schools on pieces of paper and put them in a cup. Ivy League assistant Nathan Fry selected the winners, beginning with the men and then with the women.
A huge roar erupted on the conference call when Dartmouth's name was announced.
Princeton's men, who have played in three straight NCAA finals and have won six championships in the last 12 years, are likely to receive an at-large bid when the field is announced Sunday at 8.
