PRINCETON, N.J. - John Stover scored a game-high three goals as the Princeton men's water polo team dominated Queens, 10-1, in its first game of the 2003 season. This weekend the Tigers are hosting the North/South Invitational that includes eight other teams from across the nation.
Stover scored within the first few opening plays and senior co-captain Dan McKenna followed shortly with a goal from the 2-meter mark. With the Tigers leading 2-0, head coach Luis Nicolao substituted six-for-six and the second group came in just as strong as the starters.
Mike Murray scored his first goal of the year on a 6-on-5 opportunity from the one position with just :02 left in the first quarter.
Senior co-captain D.J. Halliday carried the offensive attack into the second quarter, drawing a four meter within the first minute that Stover converted into the fourth goal of the game. Before the end of the half, freshman Reid Joseph scored his first collegiate goal from the one one a 6-5 opportunity.
Peter Sabbatini held Queens scoreless until 0:08 left in the game. "He was a wall," assistant coach Serela Kay said. "Nothing was going to go in the cage this game."
The Tigers have two games on Saturday, a 12:30 p.m. match-up against Harvard and an 8 p.m. meeting with Brown. All games are played at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
