Princeton, N.J. - A day after knocking off the second-ranked team in the country, the Princeton women's hockey team was stymied by Brown, as the Bears left town with a 3-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Baker Rink. Princeton took an early 1-0 lead in the game, but Brown scored a goal in each period to drop the Tigers to 12-7-0 overall this season.
The day started out right for the Tigers as sophomore Heather Jackson scored on a delayed penalty call midway through the first period. Senior Gretchen Anderson fed Jackson from behind the net and Jackson one-timed the pass to beat Brown goaltender Katie Germain. Sophomore Chrissie Norwich also posted an assist on Jackson's seventh goal of the year. Princeton played a strong first period, outshooting the Bears 10-6, but momentum turned late in the second. As a Brown penalty expired, Jessica Link blocked a point shot and then picked up the carom and went the length of the ice and scored on a breakaway with 17 seconds left in the period.
Brown began to control play in the second, outshooting Princeton 14-10. The Bears broke the 1 tie at the 6:43 mark when Lindsey Glennon picked up the puck on the boards and skated to the center of the ice and wristed a shot into the Tiger net. Brown continued to out-chance Princeton through the third period as well and posted a 17-8 shot advantage on the third.
With only 1:53, Brown added an insurance goal off the rush. Princeotn goaltender Megan Van Beusekom made five saves on the play, but the sixth Brown shot found the back of the net for a final score of 3-1.
Princeton returns to action next weekend on the road at Union Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
