Anderson Hat Trick Propels Women's Hockey to 5-0 Win at Union

Schenectady, N.Y. - Senior Gretchen Anderson posted her third hat trick of the season as the Princeton women's hockey team shut out Union 5-0 in the first-ever meeting between the schools this afternoon at Messa Rink at Achilles Center.
Princeton jumped on top of the Dutchwomen early in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead at the 2:19 mark on junior Becky Stewart's fourth goal of the season, which was assisted by junior April Brown. The Tiger made it 2-0 a mere 27 seconds later when Anderson put in her first goal of the afternoon and 21st of the season. Senior Angela Gooldy and sophomore Heather Jackson assisted on the goal. The Tigers continued to pressure and scored their third goal in the first 6:28 of the game when freshman Laura Watt scored her fifth of the year from junior Katharine Maglione. Princeton extended its lead to 4-0 late in the second period when Anderson scored an unassisted goal with 1:03 left in the second period. She completed the hat trick 6:50 into the third period on the power play. Gooldy tallied her second assist of the game on the goal. It was her team-leading 23rd of the season and ranks her tied for second in the nation.
Princeton sophomore goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel stopped all 14 shots she faced to improve to a perfect 4-0 on the season and 7-0 in her career. It was also the second shutout of her career.
Princeton continues its weekend in Schenectady with a 2 p.m., game with the Dutchwomen tomorrow afternoon.
