Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey team scored a season-high 10 goals this afternoon in a 10-1 win over Union at Messa Rink at Achilles Center. Seven different Tigers scored goals in the game, led by freshman Laura Watt, sophomore Tarah Clark and sophomore Heather Jackson with two goals each.
The 10 goal output was Princeton's highest since scoring 11 in an 11-1 win over St. Lawrence on Jan. 11, 1996.
Senior Gretchen Anderson scored a hat trick in Saturday's win at Union, and followed that up with a three point performance in this afternoon's game with a goal and an assist. She opened the scoring with her 24th goal of the year at the 11:49 mark of the first period on a goal assisted by April Brown. That started a flurry of Tiger goals in the second half of the first period that saw Princeton end the first period ahead 4-0. Freshman Liz Keady made the score 2-0 at 14:36 from Jackson and Anderson. It only took 25 seconds more for Princeton to make it 3-0 as sophomore Sarah Greer set up Watt for her sixth of the season. Princeton's last goal of the period came with 1:59 remaining from Jackson and was set up by Anderson and Keady.
Union's Elise Nichols scored an unassisted tally 11 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-1, but that was as close as Union would get as the Tigers scored six more times in the second period to claim the 10-1 win.
Watt answered back at at 1:03 with her seventh goal of the year from Keady. Then Clark posted her first goal of the season 52 seconds later with an assist from sophomore Sarah Butsch. Clark posted her second goal at the 7:10 mark with assist going to Butsch and senior Angela Gooldy.
Princeton's next goal came during 4-on-4 play as Jackson posted her second of the game and ninth of the year, assisted by sophomore Chrissie Norwich and junior Katharine Maglione at 11:24. The Tigers closed out the scoring with two shorthanded goals in the next 3:26. First Clark set up Butsch's fourth goal of the year, then freshman Kim Pearce tallied her eighth of the season from junior Becky Stewart and freshman Dina McCumber.
Princeton outshot the Dutchwomen 46-10. Senior Megan Van Beusekom started the game and made three saves in the first period to claim the win. Sophomore Roxanne Gaudiel allowed one goal on seven shots in the final two periods.
Princeton returns to action on Friday night as the Tigers begin a seven-game homestand against Cornell at 7 p.m.
