Hamilton, N.Y. - The seventh-ranked Princeton women's hockey team edged Colgate 2-1 Friday night in an ECAC contest at Starr Rink. Sophomore Heather Jackson scored in the third period to give Princeton the victory.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 advantage at 6:24 of the first period when Sarah Butsch found the net for her third goal of the season. Laura Watt was credited with her sixth assist of the season.
Colgate's Becky Irvine evened the game at one when she scored at the 15:55 mark. Amanda Barre sent a pass to the right circle that Irvine buried far post behind Princeton goaltender Megan Van Beusekom for her 12th tally of the season. The two teams battled to a scoreless second stanza with Princeton holding a 13-2 shot advantage, but Lahar came up big for the Raiders turning aside any Princeton effort.
Jackson's sixth goal of the season came at 7:18 of the third period off passes from Lisa Rasmussen and Gretchen Anderson. The Raiders picked up the shooting in the third frame registering nine shots on net but could not score the equalizer.
Both teams were perfect on the penalty kill, with Colgate going 4-4, while Princeton went 3-3.
Lahar turned aside 39 shots for the Raiders. Her counterpart Van Beusekom stopped 14 shots in the contest.
