Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst used a pair of power-play goals and a shorthanded marker to defeat the Princeton women's hockey team 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Princeton fell to 3-3-1 this season, with all three losses coming by identical 3-0 scores.
Jill Nugent and Stefanie Bourbeau scored special team goals less than two minutes apart in the first period to give the Lakers a lead they would never relinquish. Nugent's first goal of the season came on a power play at 8:32 and Bourbeau followed suit with an unassisted, shorthanded tally, her fourth goal of the season, at 10:51.
Danielle Lansing completed the scoring with a power play goal, her first of the year, at 14:42 of the second.
Mercyhurst outshot the Tigers 34-14. Desi Clark picked up her seventh win of the season while Princeton junior netminder Roxanne Gaudiel absorbed the loss for the Tigers.
Princeton and Mercyhurst will conclude the two-game weekend series Sunday at 1:05.
