Spicer, Veach, Brown Lead Cast Of 10 Academic All-Ivy Performers

PRINCETON - Six Tiger seniors and four juniors were selected to the 2004 Fall All-Ivy Academic team on Tuesday, which was released by the Ivy League. All members whom received this honor where either a starter or key reserve and maintained a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.
The seniors honored include Alex Brown from women's volleyball, Jen Elliott from the field hockey squad, women's soccer's Brea Griffiths, Dennis Bakke of sprint football, Austin Smith from cross country and football's Jon Veach. Cross country's Cack Farrell, Darren Spicer and Romy Trigg-Smith from the men's and women's soccer teams and water polo's John Stover are the juniors earning accolades.
Brown (Los Altos, Calif.) is an ecology & evolutionary biology major. As co-captain of the volleyball team, she led Princeton to its 13th Ivy League title and an impressive 19-8 season. Brown earned first-team All-Ivy honors for the second straight season and led Princeton in both attack percentage and blocks.
Studying art and archaeology, Elliott (Ann Arbor, Mich.) played in 14 games (starting 11), for the field hockey squad. She helped the Tigers to a 5-2 conference record and 7-10 overall in a typically challenging Princeton schedule.
Ferrell (Minneapolis, Minn.), a history major, finished 20th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. She also earned 6th place at the NCAA Regionals and 5th place at the Heptagonal championships.
A two-time women's soccer captain, Griffiths (Burlington, Ontario) is another ecology and evolutionary biology major. She has led her team to a program-best 19-2 overall record and this weekend's NCAA Final Fout.
Trigg-Smith (Kailua, Hawaii) is an architecture major that earned first-team All-Ivy honors in women's soccer. With six points on the season, she and the Tigers will take on UCLA in Friday's first semifinal (2 p.m., ESPN2).
Studying in the Woodrow Wilson School, Bakke (Arlington, Va.) earned all six starts at quarterback for the sprint football team. He threw two touchdown passes on the year and recorded 575 yards.
Smith (Midlothian, Va.), an economics major, placed 3rd at the NCAA Cross Country Regionals and 66th at NCAA Championships this season.
Spicer (Diamond Bar, Calif.) was named Ivy League Player of the Year after leading the league in goals (12), shots (49) and points (25). In the classroom, Spicer is a politics major.
A sociology major, Stover (Ann Arbor, Mich.) earned first-team All-Eastern honors in water polo. Named the Southern Division Player of the Year, Stover and the men's water polo team will battle UCLA this weekend in the NCAA Final Four after producing a 25-4 record.
Veach (Mt. Carmel, Pa.), who studies economics, earned All-Ivy Honorable Mention. As co-captain of the football team, Veach was the team leader in rushing yards (625) and touchdowns (six) during the 2004 season.
