NEWARK, N.J. - The Princeton men's volleyball season opened its 2004 EIVA Tait Division season with a 3-0 loss at Rutgers-Newark. The Tiger defense had no answer for the Scarlet Knights, who hit . 398 in the win.
Rutgers hit .517 in the opening game to earn a 30-22 win. Although the Tiger defense tightened in the second game, it could only manage a few more points in a 30-26 loss. The third game wasn't pretty for the Princeton offense, which hit .033 in a 30-20 loss.
Blake Robinson led Princeton with 12 kills and eight digs, while both Brian Hamming and Reid Joseph had 10 kills apiece. Jason Liljestrom had 36 assists and seven digs for Princeton.
Brian Honsberger led Rutgers with 15 kills and hit .560 in the match.
Princeton plays at Juniata on Friday.
