HUNTINGDON, Pa. - After a slow start to both the weekend and its EIVA Tait Division season, the Princeton men's volleyball team bounced back with three wins at the St. Francis Invitational this weekend. The key win came Saturday against St. Francis, as the Tigers swept to earn their first league win.
Following its 0-2 start in league play, Princeton desperately needed a win Saturday night to stay in shape for a home match in the postseason. It got that in a 3-0 win against St. Francis, thanks in large part to a dominant match by Brian Hamming. He had 15 kills on 21 swings and only made one error for a match-best .667 attack percentage. Blake Robinson added 14 kills, while Jason Liljestrom had 46 assists. Sean Vitousek had an attack percentage of .444, recording nine kills in the match. Four players had five digs apiece. Princeton took the opener 30-25, and then won 30-22 and 30-25.
On Sunday, Princeton swept the remaining teams in the Invitational. The Tigers opened with a 3-0 win over D'Youville (30-17, 30-16, 30-25), which was led by a dominant performance by Robinson. He had 20 kills in the match, while Reid Joseph had eight kills and a .636 attack percentage.
The Tigers ended the day with a 3-0 win over Lees McRae (30-20, 30-17, 30-16). As a team, Princeton hit .412 in the match, which included a .696 effort from Robinson (16 kills, 0 errors, 23 attempts). Jack Pichard also had a strong match, killing 11 balls.
Princeton will make its debut at Jadwin Gym Wednesday night when it takes on N.Y.U. at 7 p.m.
