PRINCETON - The Princeton men's volleyball team improved to 6-4 on the season and ran its season-best win streak to four matches by defeating N.Y.U. 3-1 at Dillon Gym Friday night. After splitting the first two games, effective hitting powered the Tigers to comfortable wins in the final two games.
Princeton hit a match-best .389 in the first game and won 30-22. Careless hitting allowed N.Y.U. back into the match in the second game, as a late run of errors propelled the Violets to a 30-26 rally in the second game. Princeton settled back into the driver's seat and ran away with 30-13 and 30-24 wins in the final two games.
Blake Robinson led all hitters with 24 kills, while Brian Hamming had 17 kills and a .44 hitting percentage. Sean Vitousek had seven kills, eight blocks and a team-best .545 hitting percentage. Jason Liljestrom led Princeton in both assists (57) and digs (12).
Chris Schmidt led N.Y.U. with eight kills in 18 attempts, with only one error.
Princeton remains at home this weekend and will play a crucial match against George Mason. The Tigers are 1-2 in the EIVA Tait Division, and can't afford many more losses it they want to keep home court for the quarterfinals of the league playoffs. George Mason, which hosted a quarterfinal last year, got off to a slow start in the division and will also need the win. Saturday's match begins at noon.
