Box Score
Burlington, Vt. - The Princeton men's hockey team fell 4-1 to Vermont Saturday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Vermont scored the game's first three goals before Princeton sophomore Patrick Neundorfer put the Tigers on the board late in the second period.
Vermont started strong and took a 1-0 lead just one minute into the game. Phil Youngclaus grabbed the puck on the point and put a wrist shot on net. The puck bounced off a few skates on its way to the net and settled in the slot. Tim Plant was the first person to the puck and he got enough of it to slide it over the goal line to give the Catamounts the 1-0 lead.
Vermont extended the lead just before halfway on its first power play of the night. Jeff Miles fed Brady Leidensring from the point and Leisenring swung around Princeton net minder Eric Leroux and slid the puck into the Tiger net to put Vermont up 2-0, which is where the score stayed through the end of the first period. The Catamounts extended the lead to 3-0 in the third period off the rush when Dan Owens redirected a Derek Wagar pass into the far corner of the Tiger net. Princeton got on the scoreboard, cutting the Catamount lead to two goals at 3-1 late in the second period when Neundorfer intercepted a Vermont clearing pass. After corralling the puck, Neundorfer ripped a slap shot that beat Vermont goaltender Travis Russell through the five-hole for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
The third period was relatively even with neither team scoring until Miles scored with the Princeton net empty at 19:33 of the third period.
Princeton hosts Rensselaer and Union next weekend in the final series of the regular season.
