Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey fell to Yale 3-1 Wednesday night at Baker Rink in the second meeting of the season between the travel partners. Senior Gretchen Anderson scored midway through the second period to give Princeton a 1-0 lead, but Yale answered back with a late second-period goal and two early third-period goals to claim the win.
After a scoreless first period that saw Yale outshoot the Tigers 9-6, Princeton came out and controlled play in the second, holding an 11-4 shot advantage. The Tigers finally cashed in when Anderson fired a rebound under Yale goaltender Sarah Love at 14:19. Anderson's goal was assisted by her linemates, senior Lisa Rasmussen and sophomore Heather Jackson. Following the goal, Princeton found itself in penalty trouble late in the period and gave Yale a two-man advantage. The Bulldogs worked the puck well on the power play and Jenna Spring scored at 17:53 to knot up the score entering the third period.
Yale came out of the locker room ready to play and scored twice within the period's first 1:06 to take a 3-1 lead it would hold for the rest of the night. First, just 11 seconds into the period Deena Caplette put in a rebound from down low, then at 1:06, Kristin Savard's wrist shot hit a stick on its way to the net and went in.
Down two goals late, the Tigers gambled by pulling sophomore goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel with 3:17 remaining in favor of the extra attacker, and the Tigers maintained pressure in the Yale zone, but were unable to solve Love. She finished the third with 14 saves and the night with 31 to earn the win. Gaudiel stopped 17 shots in the loss.
Princeton resumes play this weekend against Mercyhurst.
