Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey Class of 2004 played a spirited game in its final regular season game, as all of its members helped contribute to a 3-0 shutout of Mercyhurst. On an afternoon when the class was honored, four of its members were instrumental in the win. Goaltender Megan Van Beusekom made 40 saves to record the shutout, Angela Gooldy posted a goal and an assist, Lisa Rasmussen scored a goal, and Gretchen Anderson tallied an assist. Senior Susan Hobson missed the game with an injury but hopes to return for the final weekend of the season. Statistically, Mercyhurst controlled play all afternoon long, outshooting Princeton in each period, but many of the shots came from the perimeter and Van Beusekom stopped every shot she faced all afternoon long to earn the shutout.
Princeton opened the scoring on the power play when Gooldy fired a point shot past Mercyhurst goaltender Desi Clark. The blast was her third goal of the season and second in as many games. It was assisted by sophomore Heather Jackson and freshman Laura Watt and came on the power play. The goal came at 13:33 and gave Princeton a 1-0 lead it would hold through the second and into the third period.
The Tigers extended the lead when Rasmussen fired a wrist shot into the upper right corner at 3:57 of the third period. Anderson fed her the puck in front from behind the net and she sent the puck past Clark before the goalie was able to react. Gooldy added an assist on the goal. That was all the Tigers would need as Van Beusekom kept the Lakers off the board in the third despite facing 18 shots. Freshman Liz Keady added an empty-netter at 19:39 which was assisted by Watt and freshman Kim Pearce.
The Tigers continue their seaosn next weekend at Brown and Harvard.
