Ryan Boyle and Peter Trombino gave Princeton a sweep of the Ivy League's weekly men's lacrosse awards.
Boyle was named Player of the Week after a three-goal, five-assist performance in wins over Penn and Harvard, while Trombino was named Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after his four-goal, three-assist week.
Boyle, who has at least one point in all 51 games of his career, was held pointless for the first 44 minutes of the game against Penn before having two goals and two assists in the final 16 minutes as Princeton scored the final four goals of a 9-6 win. He then added a goal and three assists in the 13-4 win over Harvard; all of his scoring was in the first half, when Princeton built a 9-1 lead.
Boyle leads Princeton in scoring with 37 points (12-25), nine points better than second place Jason Doneger. Should Boyle maintain his team scoring lead, he would become the second Princeton player along with Kevin Lowe '94 to lead the team in scoring for four years. Boyle currently ranks fourth in Division I in assists. Trombino had two goals and one assist against Penn, including a goal with 10 minutes remaining to even the score at 6-6 and start the winning run to end the game. He then added two goals and two assists in the win over Harvard.
Trombino ranks third on team in scoring with 23 points (13-10) and has moved into eighth place on Princeton's freshman goal-scoring list. He has also scored at least one goal in all nine games, leaving him one away from tying Lorne Smith's 1996 school record of 10 straight games with a goal to start a freshman season.
Princeton hosts Cornell Saturday (noon) before traveling to Dartmouth the following Saturday in a pair of games that in all likelihood will decide which of the three teams is the Ivy champion and earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Princeton is currently 7-0, 3-0 in the league. Cornell and Dartmouth have one league loss each.
