Box Score
PRINCETON - Felix Campos had 26 kills and hit .489 while Dave Egan had 47 assists to lead the George Mason men's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Princeton Saturday in the first round of the EIVA postseason. While Mason will likely play Penn State Thursday night, Princeton's season ends at 13-10.
Princeton came out and dominated the first game, hitting .483 to pull out a 30-17 win. The rest of the match would belong to the Patriots offense, which hit as high as .556 in one game (third) and never made more than five errors in any other game. Mason cruised to a 30-19 win in the second game and took early control in a 30-24 win in game three.
Mason would take an early lead in the fourth game, but a desperate Princeton team and a loud crowd willed the game to within one point late. Campos wouldn't let Princeton even it, as both he and Dustin Crosby came up with timely kills to open a 29-24 lead. Princeton earned a sideout and got two points on the serve of Brian Hamming, including an ace that clipped the line, but a final service error ticketed George Mason into the EIVA semifinals once again.
Princeton played without top outside hitter Blake Robinson, an all-EIVA selection who suffered a fractured ankle late in the season. The middle hitter, Hamming and Sean Vitousek, combined for 24 kills and four errors, but inconsistent outside hitting plagued Princeton throughout the match.
Jason Liljestrom, the lone senior starter for Princeton, ended his fine career with 51 assists, five aces, eight digs and four blocks.
