Princeton has been seeded sixth in the NCAA Division I men's lacrosse tournament and will host Rutgers in the first round Saturday (May 15) at noon at the Class of 1952 Stadium.
The winner of the Princeton-Rutgers game will play the winner of the game between third-seeded Maryland and Army in the quarterfinal round Saturday, May 22, at the University of Virginia.
The Tigers and Scarlet Knights played earlier this season, also at Class of 1952 Stadium, in a game won by Princeton 9-7 on April 10. Princeton and Rutgers have met every year since 1926 except for two World War II years, though this will be their first meeting in the NCAA tournament.
Princeton, making its 15th straight appearance in the tournament, went 9-3 overall in the regular season, including a 5-1 Ivy League record that earned the Tigers a share of the title with Cornell. Princeton has won a least a share of the league championship 10 straight years.
In addition, Princeton has won six NCAA championships and has a 26-8 all-time NCAA tournament record, the best in Division I history.
Rutgers ended the regular season at 8-5.
Princeton was one of three Ivy League teams to earn a bid, joining No. 7 Cornell (who hosts Hobart) and Penn, who is at No. 2 Navy.
Johns Hopkins is the top seed in the tournament and will host Providence. The selection committee seeded the top eight teams and then matched up the remaining teams for the first-round games.
Cornell will host the other quarterfinal round on Sunday, May 23. The Final Four will be in Baltimore.
The complete draw (seeded teams host):
1 Johns Hopkins vs. Providence
8 North Carolina vs. Ohio State
4 Syracuse vs. Albany
5 Georgetown vs. Towson
3 Maryland vs. Army
6 Princeton vs. Rutgers
7 Cornell vs. Hobart
