Ryan Boyle, the 2004 Ivy League Player of the Year, has been named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, given to the outstanding male and female collegiate lacrosse player each season. Boyle is joined as a finalist by Syracuse attackman Michael Powell, Johns Hopkins midfielder Kyle Harrison, North Carolina attackman Jed Prossner and Georgetown defender Brodie Merrill.
The winner will be announced June 3 at a dinner in Washington, D.C. CSTV will air a Tewaaraton Awards special on Thursday, July 1, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
Boyle joined lacrosse legend Eamon McEneaney as the only two players ever to be named Ivy League Player of the Year twice when he was honored by the league coaches again this season. Boyle, who ranks second all-time in scoring and assists at Princeton, was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection for the third straight season, and he holds the league records for assists in an Ivy season and career.
He is the second player in school history to lead the team in scoring all four seasons, was a 2003 first-team All-America and assisted on a goal in overtime to win the 2001 NCAA championship.
Boyle has led Princeton to a 10-3 record and a spot in the NCAA quarterfinal round against Maryland this Saturday at the University of Virginia. The Princeton-Maryland game will be the second of the doubleheader at Scott Stadium and will begin at 3; Johns Hopkins and North Carolina will face-off in the first game at noon.
The Princeton-Maryland game can be heard on Moneytalk AM 1350 in the Princeton area and on www.goprincetontigers.com anywhere.
The game will be televised regionally on many Fox Sports stations.
