Riverside, Calif. - The men's volleyball team knew that it was jumping straight into the fire by opening its 2005 season with Cal-Irvine and Cal-Baptist. Following Wednesday's 3-0 loss in the second of those matches, the Tigers now hope they are more ready for the EIVA season.
Princeton was overmatched against the tall and athletic Cal-Baptist squad, which is the No. 1 team in the NAIA and has already taken UCLA to five games. The Tigers, which started the match with five straight errors, were outblocked 14-1 during the 30-15, 30-22, 30-24 loss.
To its credit, following a rough first game, the Tigers improved their play throughout the match. They hit -.240 in first game with six kills and 12 errors, but they bounced back to hit .222 in the second game with 14 kills and six errors. All-EIVA outside hitter Blake Robinson led Princeton with 11 kills.
Princeton played without middle hitter Brian Hamming, another All-EIVA player from 2004. Hamming injured his shoulder in Princeton's loss to California-Irvine and was unable to finish that match or play against Cal-Baptist.
The Tigers will end its California trip Thursday night against Hope International.
