Byrne, Tigers Win Rider Invitational Men's Cross Country Meet

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Princeton junior Jeff Byrne was the race winner and led five Tiger runners in the top nine as the Tigers won the four-team Rider Invitational in the rain in Lawrenceville Saturday morning.
Byrne ran the five miles in 27:01.60, outdistancing Rider's John Smith by slightly less than two seconds. The Tigers scored 25 points, easily outdistancing Rider's 40-point second-place finish.
Princeton's four other top-nine finishers were all freshmen, and three finished within 10 seconds of each other in fourth, fifth and sixth places. Dylan Cater was fourth in 27:15, Brett Campfield fifth in 27:19 and Kyle Smith sixth in 27:25.
Another freshman, Tom Yersak, was ninth in 28:05.
In all, the Tigers placed eight runners in the top 18 in the 49-runner meet.
Siena (61) and Saint Peter's (112) also competed in the meet.
Princeton will run at the Pre-Nationals Invitational at Indiana State University next weekend.
