TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Princeton senior Frank Macreery ran the 10,000 meters at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course in 30:25.9, earning All-America honors in the process, at the NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championships Monday afternoon in Indiana.
Macreery's time was good for 46th overall in the 253-person race and placed him in the top 30 among American runners, earning him All-America status for 2005. He ran 15:16 for five kilometers and 24:20 for eight kilometers before finishing in the top 50 overall.
Teammate David Nightingale also ran in the race and finished 89th overall in 30:54.1. The Princeton sophomore ran the first five kilometers in 15:21 before finishing as one of 106 runners to finish the race in under 31 minutes.
Macreery and Nightingale each qualified for the national championship race as individuals last weekend, finishing fifth and sixth respectively in the regional meet at Lehigh. The Tigers finished just shy of a top-two team finish that would have earned a team qualification to the event.
Wisconsin's Simon Bairu was the individual champion, finishing the 10 kilometers in 29:15.9 to outdistance Richard Kiplagat of Iona by six seconds. The Badgers also had a dominating team performance to win the national championship, placing five runners in the top 14 to finish with a score of 37.
