Box Score
Princeton, N.J. - No. 12 Colgate scored once in the first and twice in the second period en route to a 3-0 win over the Princeton men's hockey team Saturday night at Baker Rink. Junior Dustin Sproat scored Princeton's only goal late in the third period.
Colgate improved to 20-8-2 overall and 12-4-2 in the league, while the Tigers falled to 6-17-2 overall and 4-13-1 in the ECAC.
Colgate opened the scoring 2:21 into the game and never looked back. Tony collected a loose puck in his own end and skated all the way down the ice before taking a slap shot that beat Princeton sophomore B.J. Sklapsky on Colgate's first shot of the game. The Tigers and Raiders played a tight-checking game from there as both teams limited the other's scoring opportunities. Colgate eventually broke through for its second goal when Jon Smyth shot right off a face-off and picked the far upper corner. Just over a minute later, Darryl McKinnon followed up on his own rebound to make it 3-0 after two periods.
Princeton outplayed the Raiders in the third, firing 22 attempted shots on the Colgate net, but Raider defense blocked many shots, allowing only six on net, five of which were handled by Colgate's Steve Silverthorn.
Princeton finally broke through with an extra-attacker goal at 18:29 of the third when junior Dustin Sproat slid his 15th goal of the season by Silverthorn. Junior Seamus Yiyng and senior Luc Paquin assisted on the goal.
Junior Eric Leroux made 29 saves in relief, while Silverthorn stopped 23 shots for the win.
Princeton returns to action next Friday when Dartmouth visits Baker Rink.
