FAIRFAX, Va. - The Princeton men's volleyball team fell to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the EIVA Tait when the Tigers lost 3-0 at George Mason this weekend. Despite the loss, the return of all-league middle Brian Hamming gives hope to a squad preparing for a seven-match homestand.
Mason, which improved to 10-0, 4-0 with the win, defeated Princeton 30-27, 30-24, 30-22.
Princeton had its best chance in the opening game, when the Tigers hit .207 to Mason's .148. The Patriots, who eliminated Princeton from the 2004 EIWA championships with a win at Dillon Gym, came up with the key hits in the end and cruised past Princeton in the final two games.
Princeton was led by freshman outside hitter Peter Eichler, who had a match-high 11 kills and also a team-high five digs. Junior Jack Pichard added 33 assists.
Hamming, who injured his shoulder in the season opener, played his first EIVA match of the season and contributed seven kills and two blocks.
Princeton opens a seven-match homestand Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Rutgers-Newark. The Tigers fell to Newark 3-2 earlier this season, but they defeated the Scarlet Raiders 3-2 at Dillon Gym last season.
