Potsdam, N.Y. - Clarkson's Mac Faulkner scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal on the power play with 4:30 remaining in the second period as Clarkson edged the Princeton men's hockey team 3-1 Saturday night at Cheel Arena. Princeton opened the scoring in final minute of the first period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the game but two Clarkson goals in the second transferred momentum to the Knights, who held on for the win.
The first period appeared as though it would be scoreless as Clarkson held a 12-10 shot advantage in the period, but in a late scrum in front of Clarkson goaltender Dustin Traylen, junior Sebastian Borza slid the puck to sophomore Daryl Marcoux who scored his second goal of the season on the power play.
Clarkson rebounded quickly, in terms of time on the scoreboard, knotting the game up at one apiece 2:41 into the second period. Mark Arciero scored the goal from Ken Scuderi and Lyon Porter.
Clarkson then went ahead late in the period at the 15:30 mark with Faulkner's power-play goal from Chris Blight and Jay Latullippe. Clarkson outshot Princeton 12-7 in the period.
Princeton threw everything it had at Traylen in the third but couldn't solve him as Clarkson held on for the win. Latulippe sealed the win with an empty-netter with one second left on the clock. The Golden Knights had an 11-10 advantage in shots for the period.
Princeton junior Eric Leroux made 32 saves in a losing effort while Traylen made 26 saves for the win.
Princeton returns to home ice next weekend when it hosts No. 6 Cornell on Friday night.
