Princeton, N.J. - No. 5 Cornell used goals from five different goal scorers to defeat the Princeton men's hockey team 5-0 Friday night in front of a sellout crowd of 2,922 fans Friday night at Baker Rink. The Tiger will look to bounce back when they host Colgate tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
Cornell improved to 17-4-3 overall and extended its lead atop the ECAC standings with a record of 13-2-2 in the league. Princeton fell to 6-16-2 overall and 4-12-1 in the league.
Cornell scored the only goal of the first period on the power play 11:16 into the opening period. The goal came when Daniel Pegoraro fired a pass from behind the Tiger net, but it deflected off a defensive skate and over the pad of Princeton goaltender Eric Leroux.
The Tigers did a good job of limiting Cornell's chances through the first period and until the midpoint of the second at which point Cornell began to get more quality chances. The first of those came when Topher Scott picked up the puck in the corner and scored with a back-hander inside the far post at 12:03 of the second.
Charlie Cook made it 3-0 56 seconds later on the power play with a point shot that picked the far upper corner. Cornell added two more goals in a 58-second span in the third. First. Mike Iggulden scored on a shorthanded breakaway, followed by Matt Moulson's goal off an odd-man rush.
Princeton managed 19 shots on Cornell's David McKee who recorded the shutout to improve to 17-4-3. Leroux made 16 saves in the loss and fell to 4-9-2.
Princeton resumes action tomorrow night when the Tigers host Colgate at 7 p.m.
