Men's Volleyball Rallies For Win On Senior Night, Prepares For EIVA Playoffs

PRINCETON - The Princeton men's volleyball team rallied from a sluggish start to defeat the Mercyhurst 3-1 in the final home match of the 2005 season. Senior middle Sean Vitousek recorded the final kill of the regular season and sent Princeton into the 2005 EIVA playoffs with a bit of momentum.
Princeton fell in the opening game 30-26, but the Tigers assumed control with a win of 30-24 in the second game. Princeton came up with the key final points in each of the last two games to earn 30-27 and 30-28 victories. The Tigers are now 7-12, while Mercyhurst fell to 5-12.
Freshman Peter Eichler ended with 19 kills and a .400 attack percentage, while fellow outside hitter and senior captain Blake Robinson recorded 14 kills in the win. Junior setter Jack Pichard ended with 45 assists and tied for the team lead in digs (7) with libero Mark Stevens.
Princeton will be the fifth seed in the upcoming EIVA playoffs and will face the EIVA fourth seed, Rutgers-Newark, on Saturday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers lost both matches to the Scarlet Raiders this season, although they took Rutgers to five games in the match in Newark earlier this season.
