Princeton University finished the 2004-05 academic year ranked 42nd in the NACDA Directors' Cup standings, a point system recognizing the top athletic programs in the country through a formula based on NCAA championship placings.
Princeton's finish left the Tigers the top non-scholarship school for the 10th time in the 11 years of the Cup. Princeton also led the Ivy League as well, finishing one place and two points ahead of Harvard.
Stanford rolled to the overall championship for the 11th straight year.
Princeton finished with 448.25 points. The Tigers were led on the year by the points the women's soccer and men's water polo teams generated with their Final Four runs in the fall and by strong spring showings from sports such as women's rowing, women's lacrosse, women's golf and softball.
The Tigers edged Harvard for the top spot in the league. Finishing immediately behind the Ivy schools were schools in the Big 12, Big 10, Atlantic Coast Conference and Big East.
