Miami, Fla. - Rachael Rigamat scored two goals as Miami scored three times in an 11-minute span of the second half to defeat No. 21 Princeton 3-0 in women's soccer Sunday afternoon.
The loss was Princeton's second straight to open the season after a 1-0 loss to No. 3 UCLA Friday night. Miami improved to 3-1.
Princeton returns from Florida to host the Princeton Invitational Thursday and Saturday, an event that begins with a nationally televised game between the Tigers and Arizona 5 p.m. Thursday (ESPNU). The Tigers will receive a big lift with the return of first-team All-America Diana Matheson, who missed the two games in Florida while competing with the Canadian national team.
"It was good to come down here and play good competition," said Princeton coach Julie Shackford. "Now we're looking forward to coming home and moving ahead with our season."
The game was scoreless until Rigamat scored her first of the day at the 63:55 mark. That goal was followed 1:02 later by a goal from Paulette Ricks-Chambers and then 10 minutes later by Rigamat's second.
Princeton was outshot 14-7. Sophomore goalkeeper Maren Dale made four saves for the Tigers.
The Princeton Invitational schedule will see Princeton play Arizona at 5 p.m. Thursday, followed at 7:30 by Penn and Loyola Marymount. Princeton will play LMU Saturday at 11 a.m., followed at 1:30 by Penn and Arizona.
