FULLERTON, Calif. - Sophomore Peter Eichler is almost a veteran when it comes to the 2006 Princeton men's volleyball team. With three freshmen making their collegiate debuts last night, Eichler's team-high 12 kills weren't enough to stop a talented Hope International squad from earning a 3-0 win in Princeton's season opener.
Hope moved to 4-1 while Princeton fell to 0-1 in a 30-23, 30-25, 30-23 victory for the Royals.
Three freshmen got their first taste of collegiate action. Outside hitter Phillip Rosenberg recorded five kills and four assists while middle blocker Michael Vincent recorded five kills, a team-high two solo blocks and hit .250 for the match. Setter Brandon Denham recorded a match-high 34 assists for Princeton, which will face No. 4 California-Irvine Tuesday night.
Brian Hamming returned from injury last season to record seven kills and four assisted blocks, while Jack Pichard moved from setter to rightside hitter and record seven blocks and three aces.
