Women's Hockey Falls at Brown 4-3

PROVIDENCE - Brown's Keaten Zucker scored 51 seconds into the third period to lift the Bears to a 4-3 win over the seventh-ranked Princeton women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium. Princeton scored the game's first goal, then rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game after two periods and fired 17 shots on goal in the third period, but could not crack Brown goaltender O'Hara Shipe as Brown took the win.
After a scoreless first period, each team scored three goals in the second period. Princeton senior Heather Jackson scored the first goal, her third of the season, with an assist to junior Dina McCumber to give Princeton a 1-0 lead 6:59 into the second period.
Brown answered with the next three goals to go ahead 3-1. Frances Male made it 1-1 at 10:07 and Savannah Smith made it 2-1 43 seconds later on her second goal of the year. Brown made it 3-1 with its third goal in 1:57 when Hayley Moore scored at the 12:04 mark.
Princeton answered back at 13:47 when freshman Annie Greenwood scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season. Junior Kim Pearce and McCumber assisted on the goal. Princeton knotted it up with 2:32 left in the when senior Sarah Butsch scored his fifth goal of the season unassisted.
Tied 3-3 at the start of the third period, Brown scored the deciding goal 51 seconds into the third period when Zucker scored unassisted. Princerton tried to even the score firing 17 shots on the Brown goal, but could not score the equalizer.
Shipe made 42 saves for the win while freshman Kristen Young made six saves and took the loss. Senior Roxanne Gaudiel made 21 saves through the first two periods. Princeton is back in action on Friday night at Colgate.
