Watt's Two Goals Lifts Tigers to 2-1 Win

PRINCETON -- Senior Laura Watt scored goals in the first and third periods to lift the Princeton women's hockey team to a 2-1 win over ninth-ranked Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink. Watt's second goal came 5:52 into the third period and was the difference as the Tigers earned their 10th win of the season.
Watt opened up the scoring of the game with a power-play goal in the first period. Freshman Melanie Wallace worked the puck to senior Dina McCumber who cycled down low to the corner, then fired a centering pass to the crease that found Watt on the far post and she tapped it into the net for her third goal of the season.
Ohio State evened the score with a power-play goal of its own in the second period. Skating with a two-man advantage, Ohio State won an offensive zone draw and Lisa Chesson capitalized on a rebound at the far post for her sixth goal of the season. Amber Bowman and Tessa Bonhomme assisted on the goal.
The score was even entering the third period and it was Princeton tahe broke the deadlock on Watt's goal at 5:52. Junior Marykate Oakley started the play by clearing the puck high off the glass in her own end. Junior Brittany Salmon picked up the puck in the neutral zone and carried it into the Buckeye zone where she was able to get the puck to what for the goal on the rush.
Princeton freshman goaltender Brittany Parisi made 25 saves for the win, her fourth of the season, while Erika Vanderveer made 23 saves in the loss.
Princeton now stands at 10-6-2 overall entering next weekend's ECACHL series at Dartmouth and Harvard.
