SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Despite the best performance of the early season from senior middle blocker Brian Hamming, Princeton was unable to hold on to an early lead in a 3-1 loss at California-San Diego Wednesday night. Princeton will enter the final match of its California trip Thursday night at Cal-Baptist looking for its first victory.
Princeton jumped out to a 30-27 win in the opening game, a feat that gave the Tigers their first lead of the season. A tight second game ended up going San Diego's way 30-27, and the host institution took control of the momentum and ran off with 30-21 and 30-23 wins.
Hamming led Princeton with 12 kills, three solo blocks, two assisted blocks, two digs and an ace in the loss, while sophomore outside hitter poured in a team-high 15 kills and 12 digs for Princeton's first double-double of the season.
Freshman middle Michael Vincent continued his effective hitting with a nine-kill, one-error effort (.533), and classmate Brandon Denham chipped in with 45 assists.
Princeton will conclude its four-match California trip at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time at Cal-Baptist.
