PRINCETON - The Princeton men's volleyball team won its home opener Wednesday night, sweeping N.Y.U. 30-25, 30-26, 30-25. Led by the hitting of Jack Pichard and Peter Eichler, Princeton moved to 2-1 in the EIVA Tait Division and ran its win streak to two matches.
All three games followed the same basic trend. Both teams stayed close early, N.Y.U. earned a lead and then Princeton would build a lead around the time it got to 20 points and held on for the win.
Senior rightside hitter Jack Pichard led Princeton with 16 kills in 26 swings and hit .462 for the match. He added three aces, two assists and two digs in the win. Sophomore outside Peter Eichler nearly caught Pichard in the kills department, registering 15 kills to go along with his five digs.
A pair of freshmen looked good in their home debuts. Setter Brandon Denham had a match-high 46 assists, and middle blocker Michael Vincent added nine kills while hitting .467 for the match.
Princeton will continue its homestand this weekend with a pair of tough Tait Division matches, beginning with Friday's 7 p.m. showdown against Top-15 program George Mason.
