PRINCETON - Following a six-match road trip to open its season, the 2006 Princeton men's volleyball team will finally make its home debut in Dillon Gym Wednesday night when it hosts EIVA Tait rival N.Y.U. at 7 p.m. The Tigers will be looking to build on Saturday's impressive 3-2 victory at Juniata.
Princeton, which has started as many as three freshmen in a match this season, will have plenty of new faces as compared to the 2005 squad. Freshmen Brandon Denham (setter) and Michael Vincent (middle) are expected to start. The other middle will be senior Brian Hamming, who missed most of last season with a shoulder injury. One outside hitter will likely be either freshman Phillip Rosenberg or senior Ryn Burns, who also missed last season with an injury.
Even one of the familiar faces is in a new spot, as junior Jack Pichard has thrived in his move from setter to rightside hitter for Princeton.
The Tigers started off the season with five straight losses, including four in California, but they split their first two EIVA Tait matches. Although there are still nine Tait matches to be played later in the season, tonight's match holds plenty of importance for both teams. Six of the seven teams in the division will make the EIVA playoffs, while the seventh will miss the postseason and drop to a lower division next year. N.Y.U. currently has an 0-5 league record, and a win tonight for Princeton would give the Tigers two more league wins than the Violets. Following tonight's match, Princeton will host George Mason Friday night at 7:00 and Rutgers-Newark Saturday at 4:00.
