PRINCETON - The Princeton University Department of Athletics will hold its seventh annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, February 11, 2006. The event will feature an interactive sports festival before the Princeton women's basketball team takes on Ivy League rival Dartmouth in the marquis event of a full day of Princeton women's athletic competitions.
The Interactive Sports Fair will offer participants that chance to learn about different sports and practice a variety of athletic techniques. Princeton University female student-athletes will demonstrate and coach participants on the fundamentals of a variety of sports, including lacrosse, crew, softball, soccer, and cheerleading.
After the sports fair, the Princeton women's basketball team tips off against the Dartmouth Big Green. The game is filled with special extras for Tigers fans, including halftime recognition of 35 Years of Women's Athletics at Princeton and a post-game "Meet the Tigers" autograph session with the Tiger basketball team.
National Girl and Women in Sports Day was chartered by Congress in 1986 in memory of former U.S. Olympic volleyball team captain Flo Hyman. Princeton's event will be one of hundreds taking place across the country to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of sports and fitness participation for girls and women.
Make a Day of it

Later in the day, the women's ice hockey team will face off against Dartmouth at 4:00 p.m. at Baker Rink. Admission is free.
The Interactive Sports Fair portion of Princeton's National Girls and Women in Sports Day will kick off at 4:30 p.m. at Jadwin Gymnasium on the Princeton campus.
