RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Cal-Baptist can empathize with Princeton right now. After playing its first nine matches on the road, the two-time defending NAIA national champion Lancers took advantage of its home opener by defeating the Princeton men's volleyball team 3-0. The Tigers end a four-match California trip winless, but the experience gained will likely prove beneficial when Princeton opens its EIVA season next weekend.
Cal-Baptist improved to 5-5 by claiming 30-19, 30-22 and 30-26 wins.
Head coach Glenn Nelson played his starters for the majority of the first three matches, but he used the California finale to get more players on the floor. Rightside hitter Jack Pichard played another strong match with a team-high 10 kills, while freshman setter Brandon Denham had three kills on four swings and had team highs in assists (27) and digs (7).
Following next weekend's EIVA matches at St. Francis and Juniata, Princeton will finally make its home debut Feb. 15 against NYU.
