Wrestling Splits Saturday Session; DeNichilo Completes Perfect Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Matt DeNichilo swept a pair of matches against Delaware State and Brown, but his team could only manage one overall victory in the two matches. Princeton fell to 0-2 in the Ivy League with a 36-7 loss to Brown, but the Tigers did claim an earlier 41-12 win over Delaware State.
Princeton opened the day with the victory over Delaware State, which included five forfeit victories for the Tigers. Princeton got two other wins, a 24-9 technical fall at 165 pounds from Marty Everin and a 1:08 pin at 197 pounds from Jake Butler, a 2005 NCAA qualifier.
Unfortunately, the second match would not be as kind to Butler, who would need to injury default in his match against Brown. It would be that kind of match for Princeton, which could only manage a pair of victories over the Bears, a 6-4 decision from DeNichilo and an impressive 15-7 win at 141 pounds for Eric Marcotulli over former New Jersey state champion Mark Savino. The Mercer County's only state champion, who had won against Princeton last year, had no answers for a determined Marcotulli, who has shown veteran leadership throughout the season.
Princeton will make its home debut next weekend with matches against Columbia (Friday night, 7 p.m.) and Cornell (Saturday, 2 p.m.).
