Box Score
NEWARK, N.J. - The Princeton men's volleyball team could not hold on to an early lead and fell one match short of an EIVA semifinal showdown with Penn State. Despite a combined 28 kills from seniors Jack Pichard and Ryn Burns, Rutgers-Newark rallied past the Tigers for a 3-1 win Saturday night at Newark.
Following a dominant 30-20 victory in the opener, Princeton needed to pull out one of the next two close games. Rutgers came up with the biggest points in both games, claiming 32-30 and 30-28 victories. That win pushed Rutgers to a big lead in the fourth game, and despite a late run by Princeton in the fourth game, the Scarlet Raiders held on for the win and a berth in the EIVA semifinals.
Pichard led Princeton with 15 kills, while Burns' effort of 13 kills and only two errors gave him the top hitting percentage on the team. Freshman setter Brandon Denham led the team with 46 assists, while senior libero Mark Stevens led the team with 13 digs. Freshman Michael Vincent completed a terrific rookie season with eight blocks (one solo, seven assisted).
