Scott Sowanick, who had four goals and five assists in a pair of Princeton wins, has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week. Mark Kovler, who had three goals and three assists, has been named the Rookie of the Week.
Sowanick began his week with a goal and three assists against Rutgers in Princeton's 11-5 win. He then had three goals and two assists in a 16-11 win over Dartmouth.
Kovler had two goals and an assist against Rutgers and a goal and two assists against Dartmouth. He now has 15 goals for the season, moving him within one of seventh place all-time among Tiger freshmen. He is third among Princeton freshman midfielders in goals scorer, behind Chris Massey's 21 and Lorne Smith's 19. Massey, who would become an All-America attackman his final three seasons, played midfield as a freshman.
Princeton enters its regular season finale at Brown Saturday afternoon at 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy League. A win over the Bears (2-10, 0-5) would give Princeton a share of the Ivy League championship with Cornell, who is already 5-1 and has already clinched the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Princeton still has a strong shot at an at-large bid; the field field will be announced Sunday.
