PRINCETON, N.J. - Four Princeton student-athletes were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II at-large teams, the organization announced Thursday. Fencing's Fenil Ghodadra was named to the first team while water polo's John Stover, ice hockey's Kim Pearce and lacrosse's Katie Lewis-Lamonica were named to the second team.
The at-large designation encompasses several sports that do not have their own CoSIDA Academic All-District or All-America teams. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA and cannot be freshmen or first-year transfers. District II covers Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The awards are nominated and voted on by collegiate sports information directors in that district.
Pearce, a junior sociology major, led the women's hockey team in scoring with 41 points this season. That lifted her career total to 93 points in 95 games wearing the Orange and Black. The Tigers' force up front, Pearce was named the Ivy League Player of the Year and was a first-team All-Ivy selection. As the Ivy Player of the Year she becomes the second Tiger to be named both the league's Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year. Pearce was also a First-Team All-ECACHL selection and was named to the league's All-Academic Team for the second time in her career. She was also an Academic All-Ivy and is a two-time member of the American Women's Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Team.
Stover, a senior sociology major, is a three-time All-America in men's water polo and graduates as the all-time leading scorer in Princeton men's water polo history. He scored a team-high 75 goals in 2005 to lead the team for the third time in his career. In 2005 he became the all-time leading scorer in Princeton men's water polo history at 254 career goals, 14 more than second-place Kevin Foster. Stover was named a first-team All-Southern player and a first-team All-Eastern Tournament selection. Stover was also an Academic All-Ivy selection for the second time in his career. In 2004 Stover helped lead Princeton to the NCAA Men's Water Polo semifinals and was named to the tournament's second all-star team.
Sophomore midfielder Lewis-Lamonica led the women's lacrosse team with 38 goals in 2006. She was a first-team all-region pick and second-team All-Ivy choice for the Tigers, who finished 12-6, won the Ivy League title and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals. Lewis-Lamonica also ranked second on the Tigers with 45 points and 26 draw controls this season. She is part of the Woodrow Wilson School academic program.
Ghodadra, a senior economics major, posted a 15-9 dual-meet record in 2006 and won all three bouts against Penn and both bouts against North Carolina. At the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional, Ghodadra finished 10th in the epee. He was also a part of the NCAA national meet in 2004, finishing 21st.
The at-large Academic All-America teams will be released next month.
