Men's Volleyball Shows Improvement, Falls In Four At UCSD
January 31, 2007 | Men's Volleyball
Despite playing without captain Peter Eichler, the Princeton men's volleyball team played its closest match of the season Wednesday night, but it could not get its first win at Cal-San Diego. Despite winning the opening game 30-28, the Tigers were unable to secure any of the next three games and fell to 0-3 with a 3-1 loss. Both Phillip Rosenberg, playing in Eichler's place, and Carl Hamming led Princeton with 13 kills apiece.
Princeton held its first match lead of the season by taking the 30-28 opener, but UCSD rallied with wins of 30-21 and 30-25. Princeton showed resiliency in the fourth game, forcing extra points, but the home team got the job done and clinched the match 31-29.
Sophomore setter Brandon Denham led Princeton with 47 blocks, while classmate Mike Vincent had 10 kills and four blocks, including two solo ones. Hamming had three assisted blocks to go with his 13 kills, while Rosenberg added a pair of assists in his first full-time role as outside hitter this season.
Princeton will conclude its four-match California trip Thursday night at Hope International.
