Valerio's 42nd-Minute Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to Win at Lehigh
October 17, 2007 | Women's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Alexandra Valerio scored off a crossing pass from Diana Matheson in the 42nd minute at Lehigh Wednesday night as the Princeton women's soccer team claimed a 1-0 win.
Valerio's goal was her third of the season, making her the fourth Tiger to reach that total this year. Matheson's assist was her 13th point in the last four games and gives her 26 for her career, extending her program career record.
Princeton outshot Lehigh 12-5 as the Tigers shot on three Mountain Hawk goaltenders. Julie Kafka made all four Lehigh saves while manning the goal in the first half and Princeton's Maren Dale made two saves in the Tigers' fifth shutout of the year. The Mountain Hawks had no corner kick opportunities in the game, while Princeton had six.
The Tigers will return to the Ivy League schedule Saturday at noon at Harvard. Princeton enters the weekend in a first-place tie with Penn in the Ivy standings.
